"My only source of lighting came from a flash in the form of a ring that surrounds the camera lens. By the light coming directly from the same aspect as the lens, it allows you to get the nice shadow that rings each subject. The only negative is that you can't have your subject look directly into the lens. The result would be a blinding ring that lasts for minutes in your vision. I alerted each player to that fact before I photographed them. I still had a few who ended up experiencing the effect, even one, I believe it was Marvin Williams, who informed me he could see the 'Olympic Rings' as he walked away.
"Once I started shooting a player and they got used to the flash, everything went relatively smoothly. All the players were great to work with and very accommodating. Obviously, depending on their individual personality, some were much more outgoing than others. I think that comes across in the photos, Nate Robinson being a good example. I really enjoyed working with all these kids on their "first day" in an NBA uniform."
