Sixers Library Lineup Tour

In honor of March being Reading Month, Sixers players set off for a Library Line Up Tour across the Delaware Valley. Philadelphia 76ers players, Elton Brand, Kareem Rush, and Royal Ivey took a timeout to read to children at the Philadelphia Public Library, Wilmington Free Library and the Camden Free Public Library. The Tour was a part of the Sixers Read to Achieve program, courtesy of The Pepsi Bottling Group of Philadelphia.

A strong advocate of reading, Brand said, "I enjoy the kids, reading, having fun and just getting their spirits up about reading. I remember I used to go on different adventures while reading books. My favorite book as a kid was, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendank."

Following the reading timeout, each child in attendance took part in an autograph session and received a backpack and school supplies as well as two future game tickets.

The goal of the Philadelphia Sixers Read to Achieve program is to build a lifelong love of reading among young people by providing greater access to books and technology while encouraging families and adults to read regularly with young children.

When asked why reading was important, Elton Brand said, "Reading helps not only with your education, but it is also a lot of fun and helps to expand your horizons."
