Sixers confirm two more interviews: Casey and Rambis

The Philadelphia 76ers confirmed reports today that the team has completed interviews with Dallas Mavericks Assistant Coach Dwane Casey and Los Angeles Lakers Assistant Coach Kurt Rambis for their vacant head coaching position.

Rambis took over as head coach of the Lakers 12 games into the 1999 lockout-shortened season and guided Los Angeles to a 24-13 record. He won his first nine games as head coach and led the Lakers to the Western Conference semi-finals against the San Antonio Spurs. Rambis was replaced that off-season by current Head Coach Phil Jackson.

Rambis originally was signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1981 and spent most of his 14 seasons in the NBA with the Lakers, winning championships in 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988. Rambis also played for the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings.

Prior to joining Head Coach Rick Carlisle’s staff in Dallas, Casey’s last NBA position was as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves for 1 ½ seasons. He compiled a mark of 53-69 during his time in Minnesota. However, despite guiding the young T’Wolves to a 20-20 record, which at the time had them in the thick of playoff contention as the eight seed in the competitive Western Conference, he was relieved of his duties.

Rambis and Casey bring the number of candidates the Sixers have confirmed to four, joining Eddie Jordan and Celtics Associate Head Coach Tom Thibodeau.

Per team policy, the Sixers had no further comment on the interviews with Casey and Rambis.
