Sixers host basketball clinic - 11/3/2009

Sixers host basketball clinic at Audenrien High School

“We are not here to teach you about basketball, we are here to teach you about life,” said Sixers Executive Advisor Sonny Hill.

Hill, along with Assistant coach Jim Lynam and Ambassador of Sixers basketball World B. Free spent the afternoon at Audenried High School teaching 250 athletes and coaches the fundamentals of basketball.

The Sixers staff asked for 8 volunteers to show the crowd dribbling skills. The volunteers practiced dribbling with both the right and left hands. They also practiced dribbling the ball through their legs while keeping their head up. More volunteers joined the group to practice passing.

The Sixers staff used today to teach life skills to the students while using the sport of basketball to grab their attention. World B. Free discussed the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. “Nutrition is important and so is treating your body right,” said Free. “You should eat healthy and stay active, while having fun and working hard.”

“If you want to be good at something, you have to have the tools,” said Assistant coach Jim Lynam. Those tools include work ethic, dedication, and putting the time in….that goes for basketball and grades.”

The clinic was both educational and fun for everyone. The students will be able to use the skills they learned today on the court and in the classroom.
